Balloons Over - Suffolk Showground - (Ipswich) |

Covering an area of around 1500-square miles, the beautiful county of Suffolk with its population of half a million lies on the farthest eastern edge of England. Ipswich, the county town, not far from the coast, is the home to one of two Virgin Hot Air Balloon sites within the Suffolk borders, ideally located for an East-West flight across some glorious countryside. The name Suffolk is of Anglo-Saxon origin and means the 'southern folk, as opposed to the northern folk of Norfolk! With no cities to boast of, the county makes up with a wealth of historical towns and villages such as Lavenham, with its fine timber-framed buildings and Blundeston. Found just to the northwest of Lowestoft, the town is mentioned by Charles Dickens who assigned it as the birthplace of David Copperfield. Of course the beauty of the county has been captured and immortalized by the famous artists, Constable and Gainsborough and a view from the basket will clarify their reasons for being so enchanted with Suffolk's stunning countryside. With picturesque villages nestling in an undulating landscape, the odd pretty copse and pine wooded heath-land the county has much in the way of contrasts to occupy the attention of all who fly over this sublime pocket of beauty. Succinctly, Suffolk is a county in which to spend a few days collecting life-long memories.
