Ballooning Over - Ivybridge |
|
| |
Devon is, of course, the land of cream-teas and dare we say, the widest choice of Virgin Hot Air Balloon launch sites in any county, blessed with no less than eight carefully selected locations from which to explore the beauty of this glorious part of the country. Virtually right next door to our Cornwood site is the Ivybridge take-off point, a small town blessed with numerous pubs and restaurants and recognised as a centre for excellence for walking holidays, hot air ballooning too, therefore! In the centre of the South Hams and yet only eight miles from the South Devon Heritage Coast and a mere ten miles from Plymouth, Ivybridge is blessed with many local prehistoric antiquities, ideally viewed from the air. Medieval manors and mills rub shoulders amidst hidden tramways and ancient rows indelibly etched into the countryside. The nearby Dartmoor Wildlife Park is home to big cats, birds of prey and seals and is also the base for the Westcountry Falconry Centre. Ivybridge, named after its medieval single-arched bridge, nestles in the folds of Devon's beautiful Erme Valley, an area of outstanding natural beauty. Depending upon your direction from take-off you are guaranteed either exquisite moorland or riverside views from the basket as a patchwork of the best of Devon unfolds, endlessly beneath you.
