Balloons Over - Shrewsbury |

Shropshire, standing proudly on the Welsh borderlands, is one of England's three remaining rural idylls and without doubt, one of the most beautiful areas in the country. The second of our three Virgin Hot Air Balloon launch sites lies in the county town of Shrewsbury, with its splendid variety of Tudor and Georgian architecture. Set like a jewel in the rolling hills of Shropshire and nestling in a wide horseshoe loop of the River Severn, the town, surrounded by the river occupies what is virtually an island, amidst some quite stunning scenery. Full of places to explore leading off the quaint, narrow, cobbled streets, Shrewsbury is brimming with black and white buildings, giving the town an air of Tudor England. With its famous castle, spectacular abbey, museum and art gallery complimented by numerous inns, restaurants and cafes, the town is the ideal location from which to explore the region and then return to. Whatever direction you fly in from our site at the Quarry Gardens, you will delight in the beautiful 'basket' views offered up by this historic and medieval town, as you progress gently towards rolling hills, the meandering River Severn and the beautiful countryside that is quintessentially Shropshire.
