Hot Air Balloon Rides Over - Guildford

Surrey is one of England's smallest and most beautiful counties, despite being one of the most heavily populated.

Lying immediately below London, it is surprisingly rural with the rolling chalk slopes of the North Downs, picturesque country villages and large areas of woodland.

Our Virgin Hot Air Balloon launch site within the county is based in the historic county town of Guildford, just by the town's impressive cathedral high on Stag Hill.

Guildford itself has much to interest the tourist with attractions such as Tunsgate Arch, the site of the corn market, the majestic Guildhall with its projecting clock and the ruins of William The Conqueror's castle.

Within minutes of take-off you may find yourself looking down upon 'The Chestnuts', where Lewis Carroll often stayed, his permanent resting place now in the nearby Mount cemetery.

If one imagines that on a clear day, from the tower atop Leith Hill, you can see parts of Wiltshire some 250-miles distant, then wonder what vistas await you from the basket as you meander slowly above the stunning landscape.

Rich in history, Surrey will delight those with a taste for such matters. A short drive north will lead you to such glorious landmarks as Hampton Court Palace, one time residence of King Henry VIII.

Alternatively, you may choose to visit the Thames island of Runnymede, where King John signed the great Magna Carta, the world's first written constitution, on which much of the constitution of the United States was based.
