Balloons Over - Shelsley Walsh |
|
| |
To the West of the city of Worcester lie some stunning landscapes demanding to be explored and fully appreciated from the air. Shelsley Walsh, famous home to the oldest form of vehicular competition, the Hill Climb, the town is also the home to the second of our two Worcestershire Virgin Hot Air balloon launch sites. Located within the Hill Climb centre itself, this launch site is the ideal place from which to climb to view the wonderful scenery of the Malvern Hills. Nine miles in length, the hills form a striking hunchback landmark rising above the fairly flat Malvern Plain. When one considers that it is claimed that you can see 15 counties from the 1395-feet summit of Worcestershire Beacon, it is not difficult to imagine the panoramic vista that may be enjoyed from the balloon basket as you skirt these ancient undulations. With dozens of attractive towns dotted about the countryside there is much to admire and intrigue in this unusual area of beauty. You may find yourself drifting gently above Little Malvern, with its fine priory church, Madresfield Court, a moated Elizabethan house in adorable parkland or Malvern, the famous spa town with its superb church. Alternatively you might find yourself running parallel with the River Teme valley, an area of great beauty, interesting architecture, quiet places and rural pursuits. A flight above the many orchards and woods around the historic border town of Ludlow, skirting the Malvern Hills, whilst taking in the beautiful countryside of Herefordshire and Worcestershire will be one surely to be savoured. This really is a fairytale region with much to excite and inspire the balloon explorer, guaranteeing a memorable flight whichever direction the wind takes you.
