Sales & Marketing Director
Name: Alex
Hardie
Leading VBF’s marketing
team, through the firm’s sister company
Pulse, is former journalist Alex Hardie.
Alex adores cooking almost
as much as the pans he cooks in. He admits
that he loads almost everything with garlic
but reckons that’s no bad thing.
His distant love affair
(just a figure of speech, lawyers) with
love Island presenter and Radio 1 DJ Ferne
Cotton has now ended having married Sally
in August, 2006.
His favourite things
in the wide world are American rock band
Incubus, beef stew with crusty bread and
BBC 2’s Dragon’s Den programme.

PR
& MARKETING ACCOUNT MANAGER
Name: Alex
Ferguson
Proving that you can never
have too many ‘Smart Alecs’,
Alex Ferguson has joined the Virgin Balloon
Flights team as pr and marketing account
manager.
The 26-year-old brings with
him years of experience as a reporter and
news editor in the world of journalism and
is now learning the tricks of his new trade
from resident pr guru Alex Hardie.
Alex, a lifelong Liverpool
fan, despite sharing his name with a certain
Scottish manager at rivals Man Utd, is a

interest in indie.
Alex lists his greatest
strengths as imagination, determination,

a beach somewhere and visiting weird and
wonderful places around the world.
His recent crowning
achievement was making the shortlist of
four in the Journalist of the Year category
for the Newspaper Society Circulation, Editorial
and Promotions Awards 2005 which were open
to all UK regional daily and weekly newspapers.

CALL
CENTRE MANAGER
Name:
Denise Ilsley
Age: 24
Denise Ilsley
hopes to be successful and very
rich - nothing wrong with that,
we reckon.
Another smiley
member of our friendly team,
she likes wine, food, holidays,
relaxing and pampering - but
not necessarily in that order.
She would love
to travel the world - satisfying
her hunger for shopping, of
course - and adores Mexican
food.
Denise says
you can keep the moths though,
she can't stand the pesky little
critters. |

GENERAL
MANAGER
Name:
Donna Bishop
Age: 26
VBF stalwart
Donna Bishop - AKA Donna the
Bomber, thanks to her Mum -
loves nothing more than a good
old English chip.
She also likes
camping, dogs, cats and chocolate
- but she couldn't eat them
all at once. Show her a crab
at your peril, she promises
she would run a mile.
Fact seekers
will be interested to know Donna
once met TV heartthrob Tim Vincent
(and assures us she kept her
hands to herself) and hopes
to go to America before she
hits 30.
She likes
to decorate and read crime/horror
novels, but not at the same
time.

CUSTOMER SERVICE SUPERVISOR
Name: Kris Kelsey
Age: 21
21-year-old Customer Service
Supervisor Kris says she's a
friendly person, so long as
you talk to her after 12pm -
when's she's woken up!
Her favourite thing to do is
have a drink and a good old
chin wag with friends, probably
over a Chinese meal.
Kris doesn't like dogs but
loves kitsch karaoke classic
movie Grease.
Something that few people know
about Kris is that she plans
to stick around - her ambition
is to live to the ripe old age
of 100!

CUSTOMER
SERVICES REPRESENTATIVE
Name: Sophie Ellis
Age: 20
VBF just wouldn’t be
the same without Sophie, who
describes herself as eccentric
but caring.
Her favourite films are sc-fi
action/adventure flick The Fifth
Element and 80s classic hip
wiggler Dirty Dancing.
She's known her best friend
Lucy since she was four and
assumes the unorthodox pseudonym
'Sophie Satellite' due to her
super human ability to hear
everything.
Sophie reckons she'd like
to live forever and hopes to
travel the world. |

CUSTOMER
SERVICES REPRESENTATIVE
Name: Dannielle Kime
Age: 22
Bringing a bit of Geordie humour
down from the north east, Danni’s
topnotch people and communication
skills make her a valuable member
of the VBF team.
She describes herself as chatty
and says her strength is getting
on with everyone she meets.
We already know she hits it
off with our lovely customers.
Danni enjoys watching films,
with her favourite being Grease,
and reading good books like
Wilbur Smith’s River God.
Roast chicken dinners and buckets
of tea make Danni happy, but
spiders and traffic jams, she
can do without.
Her hopes are to marry her
partner Andy and be the best
mom to her two girls Holly and
Daisy that she can be –
which we’re sure she already
is. |

CUSTOMER
SERVICES REPRESENTATIVE
Name: Siobhan Ilsley
Age: 17
Talented young actor Siobhan
dreams of a career on the silver
screen and living happily ever
after.
Her happy, laid back and quiet
persona certainly makes her
a big hit with colleagues and
customers alike.
Unsurprisingly, Siobhan loves
the movies, particularly Moulin
Rouge and Ghost. She also has
a bit of a thing for Harry Potter,
or is it Daniel Radcliffe who
plays the role?
If she was to meet the boy
wizard she’d probably
ask him to conjure up some chilli
con carne, tortilla chips and
a nice glass of white wine.
She would certainly use his
wand to get rid of any daddy
long legs, or bad drivers who
may cross her path.
Siobhan, from Telford, is planning
to finish college and head off
to university before achieving
her aim of becoming a movie
star.
In the meantime she says the
best thing about being at VBF
is working with call centre
manager Denise (well she has
to really, Nise is her big sister!).

CUSTOMER
SERVICES REPRESENTATIVE
Name:
Kirsty Prince
Age: 18
A self-confessed
drama queen, Kirsty is one of
the babies of the VBF team,
which is ironic really, because
one day she hopes to train to
be a midwife.
Perhaps she’ll
follow her love of art and end
up creating masterpieces for
the rich and famous?
If she has her
way though, this won’t
be until she’s travelled
the globe (preferably by hot
air balloon), experienced a
Pirates of the Caribbean-style
adventure (preferably with Jonny
Depp) or met comedian Peter
Kay (preferably over a Chinese
and a nice chilled bottle of
lemonade).
With her bubbly,
smiley personality and very
positive outlook on life, maybe
Kirsty will make it happen but,
in the meantime, she’ll
certainly brighten up the day
of any lucky customers who she
speaks to.
Just don’t
mention spiders, velvet, clowns
or boats – her four fears??? |

Shaun
Thorne
Shaun
Thorne has been working as a
professional Crew for the past
3 years with pilot Martin Collinson.
He has a natural instinct for
finding the balloon which can
be very useful. Following the
balloon out of Central London
is particularly difficult as
the balloon is obscured by the
tall buildings for much of the
time.
Having a good
grounding in ballooning through
the crewing, Shaun decided to
develop his career by gaining
his Private Pilots Licence.
Through a determined effort
to build up his flying hours
this winter, Shaun is now half
way towards gaining his commercial
licence.
Shaun
has recently moved from London
with his wife Kim to York so
that he can continue to develop
his flying career and maintain
a balance of quality time against
the rigorous demands of a busy
flying schedule.

Peter
Philpott
Peter
Philpott started crewing for
a company in Australia. On returning
to England three years ago,
he began crewing part-time with
Pilot Martin Collinson. Last
year he decided on a career
change from the world of IT
and began working as a full-time
crew.
Peter has combined
this career change with the
goal of qualifying as a commercial
pilot. He recently gained his
Private Pilots Licence following
a week of intensive flying in
Italy alongside all the Virgin
Balloons that came out to fly
our Competition Winners. It
was an amazing week with the
opportunity to fly with many
of the company pilots –
and gain first hand the tips
from some of the best pilots
in the world.
Peter
has a natural flair for cooking,
which is handy, because at 6’4’’
and 18 Stone he has a large
appetite. Along with the rest
of the team there seems to be
little else we do apart from
sleep and eat when the weather
is good and the flying gets
busy.
